Participating Organisations

What is Gain?
Gain is a board development programme aimed at disabled people and individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups, covered by section 37(a) of the Race Relations Act 1976. This programme provides Gain participants with the opportunity and skills to serve on the boards of arts or sports organisations in London and aims to increase diversity of board membership in the arts, heritage and sports organisations in London. The Independent Theatre Council is managing this programme, on behalf of five partners; Museums Libraries and Archives, Arts Council England, Sporting Equals, the Greater London Authority and Arts & Business, who collectively fund and steer the programme.

Gain Programme offers participating organisations:
  • Introductions to a diverse range of enthusiastic and committed potential board members with strong transferable skills
  • Access to a board governance programme which is tailored to suit the needs of your organisation
  • On-going support and management advice
  • An opportunity to engage in diversity and inclusion at a strategic leadership level.
Gain will achieve these aims by:

  • Providing a modular training programme to participating organisations in London
  • Delivering a modular training programme to Gain participants, equipping them to serve on the boards of an arts or sports organisation
  • Matching appropriate individuals to participating organisations to serve on their board
  • Facilitating a network of peer support amongst participating BAME individuals and disabled people
The criteria for participating organisations:

  • Organisations must be constitutionally capable of appointing a Gain participant to their board. E.g. there must be space available, provision for co-opting, election at AGM
  • This must be the organisation's first time of applying to the Gain prgramme
  • Participating organisations must be either a sports, heritage or arts organisation located within the Greater London Area.
