How Boards Work:

Effective board governance

Date: Monday 5 October 09

Time: 4 – 7pm

Trainers: Charlotte Jones

 

Aim: To identify the skills and techniques needed to build and maintain an effective board.  Participants will explore the role of the board in driving the organisation’s mission and strategic vision and the relationship between the Chief Executive and the Chair. Through participative exercises participants will improve their skills in effective communication, decision making and conflict resolution.

 

 

Diversity and Board Governance

Date: Tuesday 13 October 09

Time:  4 – 7 pm

Trainers: Mary McDowell

 

Aim: This is a facilitated session to explore the benefits of managing diversity at board level and its impact on the organisation’s performance. Participants will look at the resources, tools and techniques available to support board members in implementing a diversity strategy. It will focus on the participant’s previous knowledge; encouraging group discussions and creative learning.

 

Finance for Board Members

Date: Monday 19 October 09

Time: 10 – 1pm

Trainer: Jeremy Smeeth

 

Aim: To provide an overview of the essential financial and accounting terminology and a guide to the integrated nature of financial statements. Those seeking to develop their understanding and confidence in interpreting management accounts will benefit from attending this seminar.

 

 

Recruiting and Inducting New Board Members

Date: Thursday 29 October 09

Time: 3 – 6 pm

Trainer: Tesse Akpeki

 

Aim: Recruiting new board members can be a challenging and time consuming task.  This session provides useful techniques on how to successfully attract, recruit and induct new board members.  Participants will also look at board retention, exploring the key tools in nurturing and developing commitment and encouraging board engagement.

 

Transform your Meetings

Date: Thursday 12 November 2009

Time: 3 – 6 pm

Trainer: Lois Graessle

 

Aim: To encourage board members to bring creative leadership into the meetings for which they are responsible.  It will also help participants develop their skills and confidence in facilitation, persuading others and managing conflicts.
